Like many of his colleagues on the national team, Sergio Pessoa followed his father’s footsteps into judo. Sergio Sr., an accomplished athlete, competed in the Seoul Games in 1988, and ranked fifth in the World Championships. To this day, Sergio Jr.’s judo idol is his father.
The highlight of Sergio’s career so far has been competing in the London Olympic Games, in 2012. He now gets to relive the Olympic experience, this time in his country of origin, Brazil, where he is determined to get his hands on a medal.
Sergio loves fighting, but he also appreciates the calming effect of measuring up against an opponent. Being a high-level athlete has not stopped him from pursuing his studies, and he holds a BA in economics from Concordia University in Montreal.
In his free time, the four-time World Championship competitor enjoys watching movies and TV shows, walking his dog, and surfing.
