Alexandre Émond wins the gold medal

Montreal, August 28, 2010 – The Canadian judo team added four more medals on Saturday at a World Cup competition in Miami. Alexandre Émond of Quebec won the gold medal in men’s 90 kilos while in women’s 78 kilos, Catherine Roberge of Quebec took the silver and Amy Cotton of Nova Scotia the bronze. Marie-Ève de Villers Matte of Quebec added a bronze in 70 kilos.

Grand Slam - Cotton and Tritton place fifth

Montreal, July 4, 2010 – Amy Cotton and Nicholas Tritton placed fifth this weekend at the Grand Slam judo competition in Moscow. On Sunday, Cotton lost her quarterfinal bout in women’s 78 kilos She defeated Kaouther Ouallal of Algeria in her opening bout by Ippon then eliminated Maryna Pryshchepa of Ukraine, ranked third in the world. Nicholas Tritton, ranked ninth in the world, took fifth overall on Saturday. After a first round bye, he opened with wins over Mustapha Boulemia of Algeria and Navruz Jurakobilov of Uzbekistan.

Canadian Judokas at the Istanbul Junior Tournament

The team did very well and all the athletes fought hard. The best results came from Antoine Valois-Fortier and Maude-Hélène Benoit both won gold. Lukasz Mozdzen won Silver and 3 athletes won Bronze, Kelita Zupancic, Stephen Zwiers and Jordan Poliakiwski. Also two athletes finished in 5th place.
