Alexandre Émond wins the gold medal

Montreal, August 28, 2010 – The Canadian judo team added four more medals on Saturday at a World Cup competition in Miami. Alexandre Émond of Quebec won the gold medal in men’s 90 kilos while in women’s 78 kilos, Catherine Roberge of Quebec took the silver and Amy Cotton of Nova Scotia the bronze. Marie-Ève de Villers Matte of Quebec added a bronze in 70 kilos.

Montreal, August 27, 2010 – Canada won seven medals on Friday night to open a World Cup judo competition held in Miami.

Montreal, August 22, 2010 – Ecaterina Guica of Quebec, Canada’s only judo entry at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, lost her two bouts on Sunday in women’s 52 kilos. Guica fell to Alexandra Pop of Romania and Odette Giuffrida of Italy.

Montreal, August 15, 2010 – Marie-Ève de Villers Matte of Boucherville, Que., earned the bronze medal in women’s 70 kilos at the Junior European Cup judo tournament in Berlin.

Grand Slam - Cotton and Tritton place fifth

Montreal, July 4, 2010 – Amy Cotton and Nicholas Tritton placed fifth this weekend at the Grand Slam judo competition in Moscow. On Sunday, Cotton lost her quarterfinal bout in women’s 78 kilos She defeated Kaouther Ouallal of Algeria in her opening bout by Ippon then eliminated Maryna Pryshchepa of Ukraine, ranked third in the world. Nicholas Tritton, ranked ninth in the world, took fifth overall on Saturday. After a first round bye, he opened with wins over Mustapha Boulemia of Algeria and Navruz Jurakobilov of Uzbekistan.

Montreal, June 20, 2010 – Marylise Lévesque and Antoine Valois-Fortier, both of Quebec, were the top Canadians this weekend at a World Cup judo competition held on Margarita Island in Venezuela. Lévesque and Valois-Fortier each won a bronze medal in women’s 78 kilos and men’s 81 kilos respectively.

Montreal, May 30, 2010 – Catherine Roberge (Quebec) earned the bronze medal in women’s 78 kilos on Sunday at a World Cup judo competition in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Roberge posted a 3-1 record. The 28-year-old defeated Yalennis Castillo of Cuba in the bronze medal bout which went the five-minute distance.

Montreal, May 29, 2010 (Sportcom) – Nicholas Tritton (Quebec) won the bronze medal in men’s 73 kilos on Saturday at a World Cup judo competition in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. His compatriot Sergio Pessoa Jr., took fifth spot in 60 kilos.

Derek Langlois of Oshawa, Ont., and David Ancor of Richmond Hill, Ont., posted impressive fifth place finishes in men’s 55 kilos and 66 kilos respectively at the German Youth Open judo tournament in Berlin. Nicolas Dibartolo of de La Salle, Que., was seventh in 50 kilos.

Catherine Roberge and Aminata Sall don’t qualify for Olympics

Catherine Roberge of Beauport, Que., and Aminata Sall of Montreal failed to qualify for the Olympic Games on Sunday in women’s 70 kilos and 56 kilos respectively on Sunday at a continental qualifier in Miami.

Sasha Mehmedovic of North York won the bronze medal in men’s 66 kilos Friday at a Super World Cup judo tournament in Hamburg, Germany.

Kelita Zupancic of Toronto, Ont., won the gold medal this weekend at the d’Arlon Open judo tournament in Belgium with a victory in the under-20 women’s 70 kilos division.
