Junior World Championships 2009
Athens, Gre, October 22-25, 2009
Introduction
These selection procedures apply to junior weight categories recognized by the
International Judo Federation (IJF).
Citizenship Requirements
Canadian citizenship is a prerequisite in order to be selected for the 2009 Junior
World Championships.
Selection tournament
Junior National championships 2009 (Calgary – July 6 th 2009)
Prior to the 2009 Junior National Championships, athletes will be ranked
according to Judo Canada’s point system (NT policy 3).
If the winner of the Junior National Championships is also ranked first in Judo
Canada’s point system (NT policy 3) he/she will be selected for the 2009 Junior
World Championships.
If the winner of the 2009 Junior National Championships is not ranked first in
points, then there will be a one match fight-off that same day between the winner
of the 2009 Junior National Championships and the athlete ranked first in points.
The winner of this match will secure the selection.
NOTE: “A*/A/B/C/D” TEAM INJURY CLAUSE
Should an athlete with a standard D or above, who is a point leader in his/her
event before the 2009 Junior Nationals is injured and not able to compete at the
2009 Junior National Championships, or gets injured in the course of the 2009
Junior National Championships, this athlete will be given a fight-off against the
winner of the 2009 Junior National Championships as per NTH fight-off
procedures (date to be confirmed).
Funding Criteria
Judo Canada will fund (budget permitting) the participation of athletes on the 2009
Junior World Championships Team as follows:
100% funded:
Athletes with “D standard’’ (or above) valid at the time of the 2009 Junior World
Championships.
Partially funded (budget permitting)
Athletes with “ E standard’’ valid at the time of the 2009 Junior World
Championships.
Selection is conditional to participation (funded and self-funded) in the
following mandatory training camps:
1) 2009 Senior National Championships camp (May 26 – 28 May)
2) 2009 Junior National Championships camp (July 6 – 9)
3) Senior summer camp (TBC)
