Canada’s Frazer Will seventh
Montreal, July 11, 2009 (Sportcom) – Frazer Will of Star City, Sask., finished seventh on Saturday at a World Cup judo tournament in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
In men’s 60 kilos, Will opened the tournament with a victory over Jeff Fujimoto of Japan by Yuko. Will lost his following bouts to Denilson Lourenco of Brazil by Yuko in the preliminaries and Nabor Castillo of Mexico by Ippon in the repechage.
In the same weight class, Maxime Gagnon of Boucherville, Que., lost his opening bout by Waza-ari to Felipe Versolato of Brazil and was eliminated.
In women’s 63 kilos, Maude-Hélène Benoit of Beauport, Que., fell to Yarden Gerbi of Israel by Waza-ari while Myriam Lamarche of St-Quentin, Que., lost to Camila Minakawa of Brazil by Yuko.
In women’s 57 kilos, Stéfanie Tremblay of Chicoutimi, Que., was eliminated by Giullia Penalber of Brazil by Ippon.
In women’s 52 kilos, Ève Renaud-Roy of St-Roch-des-Aulnaies, Que., lost to Erika Souza Miranda of Brazil and Nadia Bravo of Argentina, both by Ippon.
Competition continues Sunday.
