The 2020 recipients of the Brad Farrow Bursary are Marc Deschenes (Shidokan, QC), and Coralie Godbout (Club de Judo Vieille-Capitale, QC).

With a successful season in 2019 and solid start to 2020 under his belt with both national and international results, including a gold medal at the 2020 Elite Nationals, Marc Deschenes, 27, recognizes the impact that the bursary will have on his training and competitive plan for this year.

“The bursary will definitely help me pay the airplane and hotel costs for the seven weeks I’ve been abroad since mid-January for training and tournaments,” said Deschenes, noting that it may also help him to compete in an additional competition this year. Deschenes aims to reach a higher national ranking standard and get on the podium as much as possible.

Coralie Godbout and Marc Deschenes are the recipients of the Brad Farrow Bursary.

Coralie Godbout, 18, has also seen the results of her hard work in recent months. Godbout has stepped onto the podium both in Canada and abroad multiple times over the last year. With her sights set on winning medals at an upcoming Junior European tour, Senior Pan American Championships in Montreal, and the Canadian Open National Championships in Edmonton, Godbout notes that the bursary will allow her to attend important competitions and training camps that will help her to gain experience and achieve a higher standard.

“The bursary will help me achieve my goals by helping me fund my competitions and training camps outside of Canada.  It will allow me to compete at more tournaments if I am given the opportunity. This experience will help my judo career and will hopefully open some doors towards my ultimate goal, the Olympics,” explains Godbout.
