Updates to the Judo Canada policies

As per decision of Judo Canada’s Board of Directors, the following important updates to the Judo Canada policies has been approved:

  • Backpatches

As of January 1st, 2017 for Judo Canada sanctioned event only backpatches approved by Judo Canada are allowed on the judogi – see the attached documents

  • Tournament Sanctioning Policy: For all tournaments sanctioned by Judo Canada the following standrads for tatami layout is allowed:  – 4 m between safety zone between two adjacent tatamis and  3 m the outside safety zone.
  • As of January 1st , 2017:  To allow U18 and younger judoka without permanent residency status in Canada to compete in National Championships  providing that they have a minimum of two years of membership with Judo Canada .

Clarification of the eligibility of athletes for  the Early bloomer status in the 2016/17 season

U14 12-13 2004 & 2005 Maybe eligible for U16 only based on Provincial rules request & waiver required
U16 14-15 2002 & 2003 2003 eligible for U18 only with Early Bloomer request

2002 eligible for U18, U21 & Senior no Early Bloomer request required, only 2 divisions per tournament

U18 16-17 2000 & 2001 Eligible for U21 & Senior, no Early Bloomer request required
U21 18-20 1997, 1998 & 1999 Eligible for Senior, no Early Bloomer request required
